My home network has the following devices connected:
WD TV LIVE HUB
WD TV LIVE +
HP EX495 Server/NAS
Win7 Desktop
They are all on the same WORKGROUP
The problem is that my HUB cannot see any Network Share from the EX495 and my WIn7 machine. So if I select NETWORK SHARE as my source, nothing comes up. However, MEDIA SHARE works from my EX495 but not my Win7 machine.
I’ve tried everything to get my Win7 shares to work and I lost all hope so I don’t even care for that. However, I do care that the Hub cannot see my NETWORK SHARE from my EX495. I could always play everything from the MEDIA SHARE source but I want to have metadata for my files so I need the NETWORK SHARE to work.
Pull up a DOS prompt and run “nbtstat -a ” for your Win7 box and NAS, looking for a __MSBROWSE__ entry on the NAS. If missing, the WDTVLH will never find it.
My Linksys E3000 was acting as master browser. Changing its workgroup to E3000 fixed everything else.
As I posted somewhere else, after trying almost everything I’ve read on this forum and spending so many hours, days, sweat and tears; I finally have my network shares working.
Thank you Tony for the advice. I did so much that I don’t have a good solution to share with everyone but I believe it was a combination of things like renaming the WORKGROUP on the HUB to WORKGROUP, restarting the HUB, PC and MediaServer + turning Media Library OFF and ON again.
