So, I must be an ■■■■■ or something, but I have NEVER had these kinds of issues with network access, etc. Let me start by saying that I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.
Issue #1: Accessing via windows explorer. My device shows up as connected to the network on the left hand pane in explorer, but when I click on it, I am prompted for a user/domain name and password. I have tried several combinations of user/domain name and password, and nothing ever takes. What is the domain? What is my user name? Is this password different than any other associated with WD MyCloud?
Issue #2: Go figure, can’t access via my Samsung Galaxy S4. Keeps saying username and/or password are bad.
This is the first WD product I have purchased in a long time and I am strongly considering taking it back. I appreciate any assistance someone could provide me. Thank you!
You use the user name and password you have created through the WD My Cloud administration interface. You do not use the user name/password that you normally use to log into your WIndows PC.
Occasionally people have problems depending on their home network configureation trying to log into the WD My Cloud. Sometimes they have to put in the IP address or their MY Cloud device name in front of the user name. For example: \wdmycloud\johndoe or \192.180.1.100\johndoe. Typically so long as one selects the remember password when logging into their WD My Cloud using Window Explorer, they won’t have to reenter that data each time. You may have to do the same with your mobile device.
You say ‘initial setup’. It would be helpful if you explained what setup process you are using, and how far through that process you have got. For instance, are you following the full setup process in the user manual (installing a lot of WD apps), or have you skipped to the Dashboard setup method?
How is your network configured? What is the MyCloud connected to?
Have you tried rebooting your router?
What users have you created?
Have you tried a Quick Factory Restore (to reset access controls and clear users in case they’re behaving strangely?
[edit] DON’T DO A QUICK FACTORY RESTORE: that will delete your data. Sorry: had a brain fart… Do a 40-second reset to keep your files, but reset access and clear users.
