Hi. I need network help with my WD TV Live HD box. Here are the facts:
- WD TV Live Media Player (WDBAAN0000NBK)
- Windows 7 64-bit
- Blitzz router
The WD TV box is connected to my router with an ethernet cable. That works fine; it connects, passes the network test, and is able to access the internet. But now I want it to connect to my computer (which is connected to the router wirelessly) to watch videos directly from my computer. I followed the instructions on this page:
http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3787/related/1/session/L2F2LzUvc25vLzEvdGltZS8xMzUxNDAxNTYyL3NpZC93Q3gqWlA5bA%3D%3D
But it doesn’t work. What happens: I turn on the WD TV live box, go to “Video”, and then when I pretty Enter on either the “Media servers” or “Network shares” icons, nothing at all happens. If I have a hard drive connected to the box with USB, it works fine if I go to “Local drives.”
Can anyone help me? I’ll be checking this thread every day.
PS. I’ve tried using HomeGroup too. If I have it on or off, it does the same thing. It might be worth mentioning that I tried to follow the directions on this page:
http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3792/related/1/session/L2F2LzMvc25vLzEvdGltZS8xMzUxNDAwNzAyL3NpZC9ELXkqWlA5bA%3D%3D
…but my HomeGroup window does not have the “Share media with devices” option at all. Right now, HomeGroup is turned off.
Another thing which might be important: the firmware on my box is 1.06.15_V and what I go to check for a new version, it says I already have the newest version. Is that right?
Hi, check if the WDTV and the PC have the same workgroup name.Â

Thanks for the help Alucardx23. The workgroup name was the same, but I finally got it working. I think the problem was that I didn’t have NetBIOS Over TCP/IP enabled. After I did that, it worked. I can access the files from my computer now. HomeGroup is still disabled but I checked the option “Share this folder” in the folder properties. But…
I’ve played around with it a little and it seems to have problems playing 720p and 1080p video. It starts out fine but glitches and stutters and stops after about a minute. The same happens when I fast-forward. Is it because HD video is too much for wireless? The router I use (Blitzz) is really old, so could a better router fi it? Also: the video files are on my external hard drive which is connected to my laptop with a USB 2.0 cable, but I don’t think that that is the problem. Any advice? Thanks.
Yes, surely the problem is with the wireless connection, you should get at least a wireless N router.
Okay, I will get a new router. I’ll post back once I got it to give you guys an update.
It stopped working again. I haven’t yet replaced my router. The same thing happens that I explained in my opening post: I choose “Network shares” but it doesn’t move and it doesn’t detect anything. I re-did the network settings on the media player and they work fine: they get an internet connection. I rebooted the media player, and my computer, and still no go. It seems to be intermittent.
