Live Hub connecting to external USB Drive

Hi

I have a WD Live Hub where the internal drive is nearly full, mainly with Films, TV Series and music, as its taken me a few months to fill the drive with all my media (ripping DVD’s/CD’s etc) I want to add more space for storing media and somewhere to backup the on board media incase of failure.

I have ordered a 2TB WD elements external drive which I intend to connect via USB to the live hub when it arrives, to be able to save more media on the new drive and backup the on board hub drive to the external USB drive.

Looking at the way the hub works, if I let the hub see the external USB drive to store external media, it will also see my 1tb copy of the original live hub folders, which would give me duplicates I’m guessing when browsing my media  ? I have kept my folder structures pretty simple :

Music

Movies

Pictures

kids Movies

TV Series

with subfolders below them

How do people store their backups on external USB drives so they do not get duplicates on media ?

My setup : WD Live Hub connected to Windows 7 PC via wired network, I just copy media files from PC over the network to the WD Live Hub.

Thanks.

Hi

When you want to play a file on the WD TV Live Hub the device give you the option to play from the Local Storage which is the device drive, the Netkwork if you are sharing files on a network drive, but it also gives you the option to play the files from a usb drive ( you’ll see it as USB 1 or 2 ).

That means if you have the file on the device drive and on a usb drive you may not see it duplicated depending where you are playing the file.-
