i purchased this product in May and have been trying to get it to perform ever since. i have tried to upload 200 GB of music to the hard drive via network and after 5 days of continuous work, the upload had made it all the way to the C's alphabetically. the performance off of the WD external hardrive linked directly via USB cable is no better. Also, when trying to play music from the external hard drive, it takes several minutes to access each folder in the hard drive and then will only load 3 pages of information at a time before it has to index the next 3 pages. After 1/2 hour of this a window pops up and says the hard drive has been disconnected and i have to start all over again. VERY FRUSTRATING. |
Wow. Impressive network you have there.
200 GB should only take about 6 or 7 hours. (Yeah, ONLY doesn’t seem like a good word there…) But it shouldn’t take over a MONTH, which is what yours would seem to take!
What do you mean it takes several minutes to access each folder? You mean when you hit NEXT PAGE, it takes several minutes for the UI to respond?
All of the indexing is done when you plug the hard drive in. It doesn’t index every three pages.
So, I’m not sure exactly what your issue is, but I can tell you “That ain’t right!”
i might need to update the tin cans and the string on my network eh?
Actually when i transfered the music from the external hard drive to the internal HD, the external was hooked directly to the hub via usb, but i accessed the hub using my browser window and the IP address, so my network was really not involved other than as an interface to drag and drop.
as far as the indexing goes, i thought that it would index the hard drive initially, then it would be relatively seemless from there, but for whatever reason that is not the case. is there a way to delete the hard drive from the index and then let it re-index again? would disconnecting the hard drive and then reconnecting initialize a new index script?
thanks for your help Tony

Yes, your may very well have been involved, TWICE.
If you did a CUT and paste (a MOVE) then the network would not be involved.
If you did a COPY and paste, then the network IS involved. It READS the file to the PC, then WRITES the file back to the Hub.
The INDEXING is done as soon as you plug in the drive, or turn on the hub with the drive connected. It is NOT done while you’re navigating.
You can delete the hard drive’s index by deleting the .wd_tv folder on the hard drive.
Thanks for the advice Tony, i will work on it this weekend and see if i can make some prgress.
i will update this thread next week
thanks for the help
I’m having a similar problem, but mine is involving movies. It’s not the transfer of the files, its the interaction with the LiveHub, Even clicks between selections lags a second or two, and its regardless of whether the items are on the internal HDD or an external, it even happens with tab selection on the main screen. I’m going to try to delete my index and see if that helps, didn’t think to do it before. Thanks.
A second or two may be normal for movie browsing, but not the minutes the OP observed…
Yes, super slow. My directories have not updated for WEEKS whenusing the “VIDEO” selection on the main screen. You should not have to go into the deep directories to see what actually uploaded. I’m transferring BlueRay DVD’s from my hard drive through Lan Cable, and it takes at least a day or two to even FIND them on the WD Live hub, anywhere. I even transfer the files manually on my computer, in minutes, and they day days to show up in the Live Hub directory. So I know they are there, but Live Hub doesn’t seem to know they are there. A few days later, there they are visible.
Again, No way to see all the movies in the main screen that says “Video.” And yes, between clicks when going through the directory method mentioned above, it takes 15 to 30 seconds between screens.
It’s like the old days of Windows 2, and oooh 15 megs of Ram, blazing fast for us, when we patiently waited between clicks for a screen to load. I mean this thing is like dial up.
Sorry, I’ve really tried to work with it for a month. I’m just going to buy something else, but i don’t know what. Any ideas?
thanks folks.
Mike
Hey, I just checked out my icon on my previous post. Knitting needles and a ball of yarn. Perfect. One can knit a sweater while waiting for the Live Hub directory to update with just the folder list, not even the content.
Ironic, because I didn’t pick the icon.
