First of all, a big THANK YOU to WD’s [Deleted]. [Deleted] called me following my most recent post about inability to see Mac Shares from the WD live. He spent almost a full hour (!) troubleshooting with me to solve the problem. Above and beyond the call of duty.
I am posting this for Mac users who might be searching if they are having similar problems. First off, go to System Prefernces>Sharing. Enable file sharing, and then click on the Options button. In this field, make sure the "Share files and folders using SMB (Windows) is checked. Then add any folders you wish to share. Then go back to the WD Hub. You should now be able to go to the media you want from the home page, eg., Music, and select the Network share from list. You should be asked for your Mac user name and password, enter this and you should be in! If it won’t take you to the password screen, do a re-set by using a paper clip to the re-set button at the bottom of the unit.
Hope this helps.
PS. [Deleted] tells me Hulu might be coming. And he also will let the powers that be know we need a more robust user guide and better service help.
HI - I did as the first post described and worked like a charm HOWEVER i could see the entire contents of my mac on the WDTV and not just the Shared folder. Then the WDTV froze up and I had to pull the power cable out and that some how corrupted my entire user folder on my Mac so I was effectively locked out of all my files. After loads of support and creating new admin, rechanging the acces privildeges to all my folders I managed to recover everything.
So what I strongly recommend is to create a new User on your mac and share the folders you want to with that user so if your WD freezes up you at least wont have issues with your personal stuff…
