MBL extremilly slow with time machine

Hi,

i bought a MBL a while ago and it worked with time machine. It was slow but worked. At that time I had a iMAC running snow leopard. Both the iMAC and the MBL 2T where connect to a switch with gigabit Ethernet.

Now I still have the same hw config but the iMAC is running Lion and the MBL 2T Run the latest firmware version (2.xxx).

I started a full back of my iMAC around 18:00 and at 10:00 on the day after it did 10G.i have more than 300G to backup.

is this normal? why is it so slow? I’ve seen many people complaining but no real solutions!

Is this a apple problem? A WD problem? A switch problem?  How to debugg?

Thanks

MR

Hi, have you tried doing a powercycle, reset?

Yes i did. No change! It takes ages!

Hello All,

Just yesterday Apple released a 10.7.5 Supplemental Update to Lion OSx users.  It specifically bullet pointed a fix for the exact issue you are seeing of very slow Time Machine backups.

Please try the Lion OSx supplemental update and see if this resolves your issues.

Thanks,

Yep;  here’s the text of that release note:

About OS X Lion 10.7.5 Supplemental Update

The OS X v10.7.5 Supplemental Update is recommended for all users running OS X Lion v10.7.5 and includes the following fixes:

  • Resolves an issue that may cause Time Machine backups to take a very long time to complete
  • Addresses an issue that prevents certain applications signed with a Developer ID from launching

The Supplemental Update is recommended if you installed the Mac OS X Lion v10.7.5 Update (build 11G56).

It is not needed if you install the Mac OS X Lion v10.7.5 Update (build 11G63).
