Hello, I bought a WD Black hard drive to replace one that was making a terrible grinding noise at random times for a laptop. I cloned the original with Acronis and the new drive made the same noises. The tech said it shouldn’t make that noise, so he had a replacement drive sent. Cloned the replacement drive with the original and it’s making the same noise also. Can you all help me, I’ve never had this problem before.
Hi, the drives should not make grinding noises, if you could record the noise and share it here we might be able to tell what can be going wrong. However I would not trust a drive that is making a grinding noise. I suggest you to email WD.
I’ll try to record the sound, but you wouldn’t miss it if you heard it. I walked away after turning on the laptop and than ran back over to force shut it down so I would not lose any data. Sometimes I hear the sounds during startup and while searching for files.Like the discs were hitting something in the hard drive case while spinning. Is it possible to copy a flaw from the original drive to the new drive when cloning?
