Missing files and folders

Hi all,

Under Windows 7, I put some avi files in different folders on the WD TV Live Hub…

After that, I created new folders and began to rearrange all this. Moving files into folders and folders into folders.

The next morning, only my first old folders appeared.

I can’t see and can’t access to these other folders.

Windows tells me that the WD TV Live Hub has 112 Gb of data but the device interface shows 370 Gb of data.

I can’t find any sofware who can scan the WD TV fat.

Can anyone help me ? Thanx a lot !

This is what others have done to fix the problem:

Home Screen -> Setup -> System -> Media Library -> Clear Media Library

Hope it works for you too.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t works.

I still not see my last folders.

A new firmware is available this morning but I don’t want to download it in case it overwrite my data.

I prefer to wait for a solution to my problem.

Thank you anyway !

  • I’ve tried many things like factory reset, add content informations, media library and local storage view…

  • I cannot see my folders even under Windows7. The one thing is that I accessed to the WD TV Live with a PC under authentification, so I had to enter my login/password before being able to access to the WD hard disk.

You can try turning OFF the Media Library, then Clear/delete the media library and then turn the Hub OFF by either holing the RED power button on the remote for 5+ seconds or from standby mode (just pressing the RED power button briefly) and then removing the power from the Hub. Wait a few seconds power it back up do NOT turn on the media library. See if you can see any of your files either from accessing it on a PC or from the Hub.

I’ve just done all this and nothing has changed.

Some metathumb and xml files have been added due to the content informations search. I hope it didn’t erase anything (in case my folders have been deleted or forgotten by the file allocation table).

This is very annoying, I spent a lot of time putting these files on this drive, and I don’t have any backup (this hard drive should have been new and safe).

Do you think I can upload and install the new firmware safely ?

Thank you.

At this point I wouldn’t eventho you probably could. I would contact WD about it.

If you use the Files option from the Home screen I’m pretty sure you should be able to see ALL your media files. If a full reset and deleting the media Library didn’t make them show there may be some problem with the hard drive.

I’m baffled by it.

If no one else chimes in with a working solution here is the way to WD for getting help from them.

A support ticket is open.

I’ll wait for a reply or a good solution to close this discussion.

Thank you.

The western digital support replied me, but I lost this email. impossible to find a trace of this exchange in my online account. It was about a software to download for analysing my media. I do not have the name of the software but I am perplexed because to my knowledge no software can scan a hard drive on a home network.

Maybe mediainfo? It looks at media files and reprts how they are encoded.

http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en

Ok the software sent to me was Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows (a WD tool).

But like the others, it cannot see any network device.

I just recived a mail from WD Support… Stay in touch !

Remember that I’ve lost some files and folders after having move them with the mouse from a folder to another.

I can only see their thumbs files in this folder : wd_tv\thumb\Sample Media\Video.

So…

I removed the WD hard drive and connected it to my pc.
An analysis software detected anomalies on the disc.
Bad sectors have been repaired.
I launched a software file recovery.
About forty lost files were found, really not much.

It is a pity that WD does not provide better software to manage its network hard drives.
