The other day I created a Temp folder in my Shared Videos folder and moved my videos to the Temp
folder. Today I was looking for those Videos and they would not show up in the windows file explorer.
The Temp folder would show up. But when I clicked on the Temp folder it was empty.
So then I tried to view the Temp directory on another PC on the network with the same results.
After some investigation. I found that the Temp directory was created with owner root and group
root. The Shared Videos was created with owner root and group root. By changing the owner of Temp to share. The files are now visible in windows file explorer.
Interesting. There are a number of threads at the moment discussing shares going missing. I wonder if they are related. Seems to be associated with the recent firmware upgrade.
I should add that I created the Temp folder while I was SSD’d into the My Cloud. Which is why it created the Temp folder as root root.
Ah. That’s a different matter, then…
