Movies / TV Show Separation

Hi guys…

I searched through the forum posts about this and was able to find a few old threads concerning this topic but none of them were able to resolve the issue very satisfactorily.   I was hoping that maybe someone might have found a better solution.

The problem is that I have both movies and tv series residing on the 3 drives I have connected.  If I filter the hub for All Videos… I get a master list that contains all my movies spanning the drives… But I also get the TV shows mixed in.  Which makes the organization messy.

The solution that I read from the past posts was to filter by folder and just place all the TV Shows in a TV folder.  This “works” in that it allows you to keep movies and tv shows separate… but its not a pretty solution.   There are several undesirable issues with this approach.

  1. You end up having to drill down a couple of layers to get to either your TV or Movies.   IE WDTVHub>Movies, USB1>IOMEGA Drive>TV>Series or USB2>Seagate>Movies.

  2. I have movies spanning over 2 drives.   If I don’t know which drive the movie I want to watch is on… then I have to guess and search the drive.   (Pain in the butt…  especially if you pick the wrong drive. )

I don’t know if there is a elegant solution for this right at the moment.

It would be nice to have the ability to seperate out the TV shows into its own entity… so  you can view all movies and all tv  shows.   Or even if you they don’t want to do that… I wouldn’t mind having the TV shows show up in the All Videos view… if it would show the top level folder first… and then let you drill down into the folder when clicked… to pick the show you want to watch.  (Wishful thinking maybe.  :0)

Anyways…  I have a feeling that I am out of luck on this one… but thought it couldn’t hurt to post and ask the experts.

Thanks in advance

Dave

I think I can provide a solution though it might not be a happy one. The way that I do this is I have 7 drives with both tv series and movies. they are separated by drives. I used playlist creator and made a playlist of all my movies all is fine until I bought the hub now when media library is on when I access that playlist it shows it however at about 60 titles it will reset back to the first movie.

So the only way that I know of is create the playlist and when you want to acess it turn media library of and find your playlist and you will have everything in there that you added.

I have not tried the playlist since this update ccause it took forever for my movies to even show with media library on I have been afraid to I will try it tonight and see if that firmware fixed the playlist problem when media library is on

  1. well, TVs and MOVIEs are both VIDEO files, so there would be no way for the hub to tell what was a TV show and what is a VIDEO.

  2.  You can SEARCH for the exact movie you want by using the SEARCH function.

Well It appears with the new firmware I can’t even access a playlist file it says current source no longer exists then I go back to folder view and it says the same thing then I have to reboot to even see my folders.

One of these days maybe a company will work hard to fix advertised features instead of working very hard to just keep adding features and ignoring it’s current problems

Yeah, same here for playlists, however, returning back to folder view worked OK without a reboot…
