I upgraded my My Book Premium with 2 - 2TB drives. I had them working for a while partitioned as Raid 1 and the Drive Manager said they were a 2 TB drive.
I wanted to switch to Raid 0 to increase my space to 4 TB and increase the speed as well.
I configured the drive with the Drive Manager to switch to Raid 0 but after the switch the capacity read 1678.02 and 1.8 TB on the Finder. I’m trying to figure it out. And then, even when I switch back to Raid 1, it’s still 1.8 TB.
Why is Raid 0 not working as expected? Is there a better application than the Drive Manager that has some more settings and views of the drive?
I have not tried this, try to switch back to RAID 1 then back to RAID 0 to see if it works, lets see if another user can share some information or tips on this matter.
Just noticed that this drive is a My Book Premium Edition II which has a max size of 2 TBs. It’s possible that the drive just doesn’t support a drive bigger than that… although that seems silly since I would think it’s just a matter of having updated firmware…
In any case, my other drive is a My Book World Edition II (white light) which also supports two drives in Raid 0 or 1. And this one supports drives up to 6 TB. So I moved the data from this one over to the other one and re-partitioned it and voila! I got a 4 TB drive in Raid 0. So I guess it must be the drive enclosure that is limiting the size somehow.
