I have a synchronise folder on my computer and I have noticed that when I deleted a file in the computer folder, no space was added on the cloud.
I guess it is for backup purpose, but how long before the file is really deleted ?
What synchronizing software are you using? WD Sync?
WD Sync may be keeping a “history” of the files you have synced to the My Cloud which allows you to recover that file if it is deleted. If using WD Sync see the program’s embedded help for the “Version History tab function” section that explains the version history.
Yes, I’m using WD Sync.
But in the help section, it’s only saying the process if I want to view all different version of a file currently in the folder.
It say nothing about emptying hidden memory.
PS: I found a (very bad) way to do it. I deleted the .WDSyncHistory folder on the device. It has deleted all junk files (more than 1.3 To).
That is an apparent problem with WD Sync and probably one possible cause why some users who use WD Sync have found their My Cloud device having its free space filled by the hidden WD Sync folder(s).
If one doesn’t need remote syncing to a remote My Cloud one might want to consider using a third party sync program. Some of us have had good luck using Free File Sync (https://www.freefilesync.org/). Downside is one generally cannot sync to a remote off site My Cloud without using VPN or similar form of remote access…
