MyCloud will not stream but MyBookLive works fine?

I’ve been doing some upgrades on my network. I’ve been using Western Digital’s MyBookLive as my servers of choice ( I own two). I started out with just one and eventually got to two 3TB units. My network runs through a DLink DGL-4500 router. I use Dune’s HD Smart D1 as my media player.

So I just added one of Western Digital’s MyCloud (3TB) which is their newest version of the MyBookLive. It’s much faster so I was expecting an improvement in response times. Instead, what I got, is video jitters, stuttering, or whatever you want to call it.

At first I thought maybe I had a corrupted unit. It passes the self test but perhaps a sector went bad or something. But I got a new one (I bought a 4TB unit) and it stutters during the movie too. I’ve been using The Avengers (2012) as my test movie and it is stored as a BD ISO. I copied the movie over to my older MyBookLive and the movie plays fine on the Dune player from that location. The movie also plays fine on my PC from both the new MyCloud and the older MyBookLive.

I enabled “Fast SMB access” on my Dune media player and it seemed to reduce the jittering but not eliminate it. So there is something going on between the new MyCloud and the Dune. I’m running the latest beta firmware on the Dune (and going back to a non-beta doesn’t seem to affect the problem).  I’m also runing the latest firmware on the MyCloud(s).

I can really only point to two possible problems. Incompatibility between the MyCloud and the Dune for whatever reason or the router. The latter seems hard to believe considering the movie streams fine to the PC and the older MyBookLive seems to stream it fine as well.

Any ideas as to why the movies stream fine from the older MyBookLive and not from the newer MyCloud?

I am having a simliar problem.

Have both an WD Live TV and older WD Player, both stutter on VOB playback when using my 4TB MYCloud as a NAS.

However when I copy the same files to my older 1TB MyBookWorld the VOBs play fine.

Using the exact same wired network in each case.  So it is like the MyCloud has a problem playing back VOB files.

Other file types such as MK4, MPG etc are all fine.  VOBs have been ripped from DVD.

Well, that’s helpful.  At a minimum, I know it’s not just me.  Have you played your VOBs from your PC?  Can you do that and report the results here?

The problem must be something going on with the new MyCloud.  Or at least there is something going on between the new MyClouds and the media players.  As I said earlier, if I play a movie to my PC from the MyCloud it plays flawlessly.

So for whatever reason, when files are played from the new MyCloud there is something going on that a media player can’t handle.  The PC must be able to compensate somehow.

The question is…is there anything that can fix this problem?  Firmware update?  Or are we simply out of luck?  I had thought of transitioning to the new MyCloud EX with 16TBs.  But I can’t do that if there is something fundamentally wrong at the firmware or even a chip level.
