I’m now the owner of a WD TV Live Plus running the 1.06.16_B version of the firmware. My question has to do with the streaming of Netflix High Def films.
I have the system hardware configured as follows:
Input is via hard wired ethernet to a 15mbs broadband cable connection.
Video output is to a 720p/1080i Panasonic plasma via component connection.
Audio output is to an Onkyo AVR via an optical connection.
WD TV Live Plus is setup as follows:
Widescreen.
Component (1080i).
I have thrown quite a varied assortment of A/V files at this guy and everything works as expected, except Netflix HD. The streaming video looks like an anamorphic 4:3 format. My TV has an aspect ratio control that only works on 480i/p. The aspect ratio control does not affect 720p or 1080i. I have to configure the aspect ratio as ‘Full’ which straightens everything out but tells me that the video is NOT 720p or 1080i but probably 480i/p. Any suggestions or ideas will be appreciated.
On my 720p-native projector, the image looks better using component than HDMI. (HDMI looks kind of flat, even though it might be a tad sharper.) My workaround to the problem you identified is to connect both the HDMI and component outputs to my receiver and then use the component outputs for the video (and either HDMI or optical for the audio). The WDTV video is set for HDMI out, but it nicely outputs the 720p to Component as well.
So I tried hooking up the plus to the HDMI input on my Panasonic th50px500. All functions worked except Netflix. As soon as Netflix loaded the stream and tried to play it, all sorts of bad things happened. I checked on this forum and found that the problem is due to faulty hand shaking between the plus and my Panny. WD at one point in a thread said that they had reproduced the problem and were working on a fix. Does anyone know what has become of that effort?
