Netflix Quality

I have my WDTV Live Plus set up to output 1080i via Component to my TV.   The only HD resolution my TV supports is 1080i.

I’m not thrilled with the picture quality.  Is there any way that Netflix is actually sending an HD feed?  If Netflix is sending 720p, then the WDTV will upconvert that to 1080i and send to my TV, right?

I did over HDMI and the quality might have been marginally better, at best.  I also played Netflix through my Wii Component cable (420p) to the TV and that didn’t look much worse, if at all, than through the WDTV box.

In my netflix account, I set manage video quality to best quality.

Streaming 720p .mkvs across  my network or when I stream something though flingo, it looks better than netflix.

How can I confirm I’m getting an HD feed sent to the TV?  Any other suggestions?

I was testing with Pulp Fiction as well as Lord of the Rings.  Not sure if theres a movie on Netflix that’s know to have high picture quality that would make a better test case.

first off 1080i and 720p are the same but I would go with 720p because it is better. Second Netflix and all hd tv is only 720p (1080i). and for picture quality it all comes down to your connection speed.

Not sure what you mean that 1080i and 720p are the same.  As I noted above, my TV does not support at 720p input, that’s what I have the WDTV set to 1080i output.

My network connection is fast enough to stream an HD file across my network, so it should be a pretty solid connection.

Is there any way to confirm that Netflix is actually sending HD quality to the WDTV?

To summarize- you only get HD via HDMI because Netflix says so.

Thanks for the link.  I didn’t know about that.

I moved my Cable box over to Component, moved the WDTV Live to HDMI and re-programmed the remote a bit and looks much better now.

I had the Wii Netflix and WDTV Netflix running on 2 inputs at the same time and I can see the WDTV is much clearer now.

I’m pretty sure I’m getting HD Netflix now.

Thanks!

As it should as the Wii does not support HD.

Correct.
