Can I use my Passport Essential to back up multiple laptops and keep the data seperate?

Yup…

this is by design, the software will keep separate backup volumes.

you can also manually backup your files

A couple things to add. Make sure the drive isn’t the only copy of your data. Drives used on different operating systems tend to have more problems with corruption.

Do I have to physically move the Passport E. to the other computer, or can I access through my simple network.  I have mapped the drive from my laptop, and installed the software from the drive to my wife’s laptop, it loads and lists her files, but does not see the PE to backup.  The Backup tap is dimmed out.
