First post here. Just bought and installed a new 3TB WD my cloud drve and connected it all up ok. Using windows 8.1. I have set up various users and we all have passwords set up and I’ve restricted all shares to full access for each and no access for any other user.
I’m trying to access my share in the left hand drive list in the windows explorer and it asks for a p/w. Every time I enter the only p/w I have set in mycloud , it says I have no access.
I can access it fine from the desk top app but cannot from the explorer panel.
Any ides what’s going on?
I’ve also got it linked to our blu-ray via the DLNA functionality and this allows us to see each others shares?? How can this be??
Other than that I’m very impressed with the drive.
I do have a log in for that yes. I’ve tried to log in to see my files on line but it says that shares cannot be shown. A Java issue I believe. I have set passwords on the drive and even disabled them in the hope that I could have access but it’s not working, my only access is via the desktop app. Not tragic but slightly frustrating.
Is this the sign in box you get when you try to open WDMYCLOUD or a share on the left side of the screen under Network? I only have to sign in when I am on my laptop as my desktop is the computer I set MyCloud up on.
If you have created several users and have asigned some of shares to different users with public, read access, or full access. You will find that only the Root Administrator has access to all shares. If other users don’t have full access or for example public access, these can only access the public folders/shares or the read access folders/shares, they can’t access the folders/shares that are full access. So this is part of the reason you cannot access it.
It could also be that if you try to access the folder/share with different computers and different users with different access priviledges you could get a pop up like that. Also I would look in to the IP address assignment of all of your computers asnd other hardware if they all individually have a single unique IP address. Best thing is to have the IP addresses of all computers and other hardware assigned by the DHCP (server) of the Router and then make them set to that IP address, so whenever you restart the computer it will always choose that IP address. If for example the IP address is not released properly, you could have multiple users using a shared IP address and Windows and Linux is not happy then. Make sure your IP addresses are unique to every hardware you have connected.
Which can be, Network Printers, Computers, Ipads, Phones, WD Clouds, NAS’s, Network Storage Links, Managed Switches, Laptops, Smart TV’s, Digital Boxes, Networked USB/SD card boxes, etc. etc. Everyone must have a unique IP address otherwise you will get conflicts on the network and shares/folders.
I am the admin. I have my own share. I have my own p/w.
The cloud will not let me in to my share with my own passwordas admin or user.
I have tried changing priveleges and access and even removing the need for a p/w but still it does not let me, the admin, into my own shares.
I can get in fine via the desktop app so I will just have to continue to use it this way for now until I can understand this. The smartware also saves straight to my share so it’s all talking to itself the right way. Just not me.
I’m no expert but no ■■■■■ either. Just don’t get it.
Yes I have five users including me as a user and admin. Each has their own share which is full access for the individual only. My admin access and share, as far as I am aware, are one and the same. I have removed the p/w requirement, changed it to public access and back again etc etc but it still does not let me, the user or admin, access my own share that I have specific access rights to. I can access it via the desktop app. I can log into the dashboard, with the same p/w, I can upload to my share via smartware. But I can’t access my share via the explorer folder under network.
I will look into the IP thing but it all sounds a bit much for what should be a simple system. I’m no PC expert but no ■■■■■ either. I’ll just have to use it via the desktop app for now until I can undestand what’s going on.
SOMETHING is connecting to your Cloud via the PUBLIC credentials (basically NO credentials.)
Once that happens, Windows will prevent you from accessing ANYTHING that has non-public credentials. It’s a stupid Microsoft limitation that NO OTHER O/S has.
For example, if Smartware is saving to a share that’s Public, it’s going to log in as Public, and that’s “All She Wrote.”
Here’s a test…
Instead of connecting via this syntax:
\wdmycloud\myshare
Try this:
\ip-address-of-your-cloud\myshare… for example:
\192.168.1.100\myshare
If that works, then you know the above is the case.
If/when you get prompted to authenticate with a Windows login box make sure you type in wdmycloud\username where wd mycloud is the name of your mycloud (default is wdmycloud) and username is the mycloud user ID. Many times in Windows it will default to trying a domain or local computer user name. Specifying wdmycloud\username tells it to use the account on your mycloud.
I was also having this isssue and no matter what combination of user name/password I used, despite being able to log in as admin and see and change them from the dashboard would allow me in.
