Public folder vs. not public DLNA content. How to?

Hi Guys!

I am new here and new with WD My Cloud Ex2 as well. I just set up the device. Works fine. I purchased it for three reasons:

  • Share pictures about our son with parents who live far from us

  • Store family pics for our selves

  • Store media for playing them on DLNA enabled device

I understood that the “Public” folder can not be restriced, so whatever I store there it will be visible to all “guest” users as well.

I also understood that content ment for DLNA enabled devices (music, vids) need to be stored in the respective subfolder under “public” folder.

So does it mean that anyone whom I added as a user with “read” rights to the folder “my son” will access all my vids and music without restriction of permission?

Or do I miss something?

Any help is appreciated!

Thx

Z

Hello,

Yes, any user will have access to these files.

I recommend to fix the Puplic folder permissons issue before using the NAS product as a product. :open_mouth:
