Q about working temperature of internal drive wd2500ks

Hello all,

New to this forum.

Asking on behalf of a friend:

He’s seeing readings of 48 deg Celsius for this drive. All I could find on WDC suport site are the envirionmental temps (working and non-working) but nothing about the max or nominal internal temps.

Any and all help on this issue would be appreciated.

try to stay below 45°C at all times. Do not cross the threshold of 50°C. 55°C and your drive might turn off automatically (protection). 60°C and you might as well throw an axe at it.

I’d say, install the slowest and quietest fan you can find directly behind the drives. This should sufficiently cool it to get below 45°C. A minimal airflow is all you need to cool those drives, as they dont heat up quickly like a cpu or something along the lines does!

David, thanks much. This extra fan suggestion does make sense to me, especially that I, too, thought about it.
