Everything has been fine since installing My Booklive 2TB in December on my iMac using Time Machine.
Lately when I’ve look across at the top notify bar (time machine) on my mac it says what ever number it’s on of 62.7gb. I looked into this and since about 2 weeks ago this has been going on. It will prepare backup and start a kb of 62.7gb or more depending on how much there actually is to back up. So if there is 200mb to back up it will say …of 62.9gb it will then backup the 200mg then clear up but never changing the now 62.7 to 0 This is I think giving no adverse effects other than I have to work out the difference to know how long it roughly is going to take.
Anyone else had this problem or how to resolve it?
I have scan the drive with utility **bleep** and it is indeed corrupted. What would you advise? Delete the backup and re mount? How would I go about this?
Is it the drive itself that is corrupted - or is it the Time Machine sparse bundle image file?
I would suggest deleting the sparse bundle image from the MyBook Live TimeMachine share and start the backup process over from scratch. You will lose your existing backups - but it sounds as though those may be questionable anyway.
The easiest way to delete the sparse bundle from the TimeMachine share is to use the MBL dashboard. Open the dashboard ( http://MyBookLive.local)) - select Backups - you will see your Mac backup listed. Click on the trash can icon next to the backup. This will delete the sparse bundle image. Deleting via the MBL Dash Backup window will probably delete the sparse bundle faster than attempting to do it via finder.
You can also delete the sparse bundle in Finder - choose Go - Connect to Server - and specify afp://MyBookLive.local for the server name (subtituting whatever name you have given your MBL in place of MyBookLive). When the share list appears - select the TimeMachine share. Connect either as guest or as admin. If you connect as admin - then you would use the “owner” password.
You should see a file called YourMacName.sparsebundle. Drag this file to the trash. The delete process may take a while - especially if there is corruptiopn in the image.
When the sparse bundle has been deleted - eject the share. Open Time Machine preferences and reselect the MBL as the backup drive. A new full backup will beging.
Note: You can also delete the sparse bundle directly from the MBL Dash Board - without having to mount the Time Machine share.
Keep a close watch on the backups over the next few days and watch for any unusal behavior - if you still see problems - you might want to do a quick factory restore - which will erase and reformat the entire MBL. Although all data will be lost on the MBL - the restore will generate a new file system on the MBL - which should not be corrupted.
Thanks Sbeatie2 and Wizer for replying. Just started my 4 and half day back up. I really wished they had put a ubs on 'My Book Live for initial backup would be a lot quicker!
