SMB direct connection to MAC not working

Hi i am trying to connect my Mac directly to my WDTV Live Hub with a Cat 5 patch cable because my router is downstairs but my laptop is upstairs.

I have turned on SMB sharing on my mac and shared some folders but when i click on network shares it doesn’t find my MAC

Does anyone have a step by step guide on what i have to do to get the SMB shares to show up?

You’ll need a crossover cable to make a direct connection.

I have drives and folders shared, and have SMB on. All I had to do was use the automatic setup on the Hub.
