I connected the WDTV Live with a plugged in HDD on it, to a TV. It works fine. The thing is : I can see this HDD plugged in the WD through the network with every computer in the house, I can even access the files.
Now, It would be great if I could access the same files through the network from a separate TV that stands in another room.
The other tv model is the Sony Bravia KDL 40EX525, and it is connected to the network - from it I can even access the files in my notebook through the Playstation 3 Media Server.
(I could share and access the files from my notebook, but it gets very hot when I stream over from it, so I rater not do it - this is why I want to stream from the WD)
Saying that the Sony TV only recognises DLNA, and that’s why the WD TV SMP is not recognised, does not make sense for the following two reasons:
WD TV SMP is a DLNA certified device (check DLNA.org), yet i cannot get my Sony Bravia KDL32EX720 to even recognise such a device on my network.
I have another device, a NexStar FX NAS adapter (this is DLNA certified/compatible even though it does not appear on the DLNA.org list) with an older HDD (WD Elements, 600Mb) attached and my Sony TV (KDL32) can both recognise and read files off it. (suggesting that my non-certified gigabit switches are not the issue either).
So, how can I get my Sony KDL TV to recognise and play WD TV SMP files?
All devices are connected via either Cat5e or Cat6 cables, through a D-Link/TP-Link switch via a TP-link router. My computer and my Andoird phone can both access files from the WD SMP, but seems my Sony TV cannot.
Thanks,
Agnieszka.
edit: the only thing i have not tested is the disk format. the WD elements is FAT32 formatted, the WD SMP has an NTFS-formatted drive attached to it (a 2Tb WD - can’t remember model, some regular desktop style). Still, even if the drive is not correct format, shouldn’t the Sony TV be able to connect to the WD SMP itself?
