Sony Bravia cant see WDTV over network

Hi,

I connected the WDTV Live with a plugged in HDD on it, to a TV. It works fine. The thing is : I can see this HDD plugged in the WD through the network with every computer in the house, I can even access the files.

Now, It would be great if I could access the same files through the network from a separate TV that stands in another room.

The other tv model is the Sony Bravia KDL 40EX525, and it is connected to the network - from it I can even access the files in my notebook through the Playstation 3 Media Server.

(I could share and access the files from my notebook, but it gets very hot when I stream over from it, so I rater not do it - this is why I want to stream from the WD)

thanks!

Not possible.   Your TV only connects to DLNA servers, an option the Live SMP doesn’t have.  Only the Live Hub does that.

Wired or wireless connection for the tv?

Normal if a device it not seeing another its a minor network issue.

The fix that most often works is turn off the  device and then uplug the router and plug it back in after 30 sec.

Turn everything back on and see if this fixes the issue.

You can also try chaning the name for the wdtv share.

The WD is on the wireless network.

The TV is wired, but from the same router.

Usually I can see from the TV my notebook that is in the same wireless network as the WD.

I can see the WD from the notebook.

He got it dead on its only going to see DNLA.

Easy way around this is download and install the free plex server on the main pac and all all your shares to it.

The tv should have no problem at all seeing the plex DLNA then and you shall have acess to all your media.

First, thanks for everyone’s help

So, this Plex, i should run it on the computer ? (macbook) AND besides it, have the WDTV running so I can stream my media into the TV ?

Plex runs on all the major OS.

http://www.plexapp.com/getplex/index.php

You install it and open it then add your share its fairly simple and since most high end tv can use the plex cleint it very simple to use

Nice thing is  with the clinet on the tv it well transcode videos that the tv doesn’t natively support.

Since yours is a internet tv iam guessing you can download the clinet for free

The plex server well boat with your mac and you can set it to scan the shares when it detects changes or during certain times of day.

After your setup you can either use the plex on the tv or the wd if you wish and should have no problems.

Saying that the Sony TV only recognises DLNA, and that’s why the WD TV SMP is not recognised, does not make sense for the following two reasons:

  1.  WD TV SMP is a DLNA certified device (check DLNA.org), yet i cannot get my Sony Bravia KDL32EX720 to even recognise such a device on my network.

  2. I have another device, a NexStar FX NAS adapter (this is DLNA certified/compatible even though it does not appear on the DLNA.org list) with an older HDD (WD Elements, 600Mb) attached and my Sony TV (KDL32) can both recognise and read files off it. (suggesting that my non-certified gigabit switches are not the issue either).

So, how can I get my Sony KDL TV to recognise and play WD TV SMP files?

All devices are connected via either Cat5e or Cat6 cables, through a D-Link/TP-Link switch via a TP-link router. My computer and my Andoird phone can both access files from the WD SMP, but seems my Sony TV cannot.

Thanks,

Agnieszka.

edit: the only thing i have not tested is the disk format. the WD elements is FAT32 formatted, the WD SMP has an NTFS-formatted drive attached to it (a 2Tb WD - can’t remember model, some regular desktop style). Still, even if the drive is not correct format, shouldn’t the Sony TV be able to connect to the WD SMP itself?

The SMP can connect to DLNA servers on your network, but it has no server itself. Tony already mentioned that.

Thank you all for your prompt help.

It seems at the end that the Bravia system cannot detect the WDTV files over Network (for now at least…).

Nonetheless, if ever I find a way of solving this problem, I will be posting it in here.

Buying a WDTV Live Hub with it’s built in Twonky Media Server will solve your problem.

I’m Currently streaming Media to 2 Smart TV’s Via DLNA from the WDTV Live Hub.

I have the exact same problem, I am unable to see my wd tv from the wifi connected tv.

Did you manage to find a solution to this?
