From the searches, this seems to be a common issue, but I didn’t find a solution yet.
My copy/transfer speed is about 3-4MB/sec when I am copying/moving files on the MBL. (Ie from one folder or share of the MBL to another folder or share on the MBL.)
When I copy/move files between my internal or external (usb) drives and the MBL, I’m getting about 7-8 MB/sec. I was getting about 3-4 MB/sec before disabling Remote Access. Turning it back on left it about 6-8MB/sec.
Between the internal and external drives - about 27-30 MB/sec.
Transferring files between computers on the network - about 4MB/sec wireless, about 7MB/sec wired. This makes me think that at least some of the issue is in the network.
I’m currently trying to run a diagnostic test (from the Settings menu) on the MBL, but it has hung at 10% for about 30 minutes now.
I rebooted the MBL. The MBL is plugged directly into the router. The router & switch are both 10/100 units.
Windows 7-64 bit. MBL plugged into the router.
Any thoughts or suggestions? Why would the transfer of files entirely contained on the MBL be at the slowest speed? Is there at least a way to get it to understand that it doesn’t have to go out to the network to transfer files internally?
I’ve been playing a bit more, and have some answers, but still some of the same questions.
Since I don’t use that much of my wired home network, I pulled the switch and plugged all the wired connections into the router.
Results (if I recorded the speeds properly):
Intra-MBL copying is up to 9-10MB/sec. Moving is almost instantaneous. (EDIT - IF moving to the same share - if moving to a different share. either public or private, it’s back to the 60-10MB/sec.)
Internal to external drive speed unchanged, logically.
External to/from MBL is now about 27MB/sec.
Internal to/from MBL is now about 25MB/sec / 50MB/sec. Not sure why uploading to MBL is so much slower than downloading.
I’m not ecstatic, but can (just) live with this for now.
I’m still hoping for feedback, comments and/or suggestions. Maybe I had a bad switch or wiring issues???
I have the iMac 3.4 i7 16g of ram. This MybookLive has alyas been slow. Yes in my folders large amounts of media files AND even small folders. It’s also slow using TimeMachine.
I just installed this current Firmware, and I must say, My back up to TimeMachine is much slower, (If that was even possible.)
Not only that, it’s mure sluggish when opening up the dashboard and when accessing files off the MyBookLive. Not happy with this product since day one. Next time, I’ll know better and just buy a USB 2.0 External HD and plug it straight in to my router. ( Better yet, wait for a router supporting USB 3.0, and get a HD to match…but never again get a myBookLive! )
It’s been on 5.49 GB out of 148.16 GB for the past hour that’s inexcusable! I’m beginning to think it froze on 5.49 now!
I don’t recommend updating this firmware. You’re better off.
