Subtitle Support for Mezzmo Streamed Movies

I have a Windoze 7 machine(8TB HD) using Mezzmo as my DLNA server and can stream movies to the WD Live Hub with no problems (well except for the 1080p ones but that could be due to the fact that I am using Wireless N and not Ethernet). I have a number of movies that are subtitled .srt files which does not work when I stream. However if I copy the directory contining the movie and the subtitle file to the local HD in the WD Live Hub they work no problems. I have checked with Mezzmo. They said Mezzmo tells the player that it has substitles in SRT/SUB when the player asks to get a file list. After that it’s up to the player whether to request subtitles from Mezzmo or not.

Does Anyone have this issue or could shed light on what could be the problem.

Thanks

They are right. The WDTVs don’t support external subs thru DLNA.

Can’t you just mux the .srt files into the media files?

Sure, assuming you are using a.mkv container but I have quite a few movies that are using .mp4 container hence my question. Thanks.

Thanks for your response TonyPh12345 So my followup question is what are the workarounds typically used in this scenario?

Can’t you just mux the subs into the .mp4?

Never mind.  I’d thought some people had embedded subs in .mp4 working… I’d forgotten they weren’t supported.

That is a little more work than I am trying to take on given I have literally hundreds are movies in .mp4 format with more than quite a few with external .srt subs.
