I cannot seem to get subtitles to work when watching my library films on the WD Meida player.
I have the .srt file for the film in the same folder but subtitles will not turn on.
What am I missing?
Thanks,
Dov

If you are using “Media Shares” aka DLNA … then external subtitles won’t work (they need to be embedded aka muxed in)
External Subs work fine with Network Shares and Local USB Storage.
so, what are you using ? more info
Hi Joey,
I think this may be related to how I have the media player configurec with regard to medial library vs.Network share, as I mentioned in a previous post where I was looking for help with rating a film.
I am not sure how to answer your question…what exactly do you need to know?
Thanks!
DovÂ
Whether you’re using Network Share versus Media Library as your content source, subtitles should still work correctly.  Joey was asking if you might have been using “Media Server” as the content source, which it sounds like you aren’t.
My first guess in this case is that the subtitle files aren’t named EXACTLY the same as the movie file (with the exception of the extension, of course…)
Ah, yes, ok…so I think I reconigured the devie to use Media Library. I noticed after I reconfigured I had to point the media library to the movie files on my MyCloud toward the top of the screen it was add info.Â
I looked again today and discovered I do not have a subtitle file for the particular film in question anyway.
Which leads me to another question…which by the way, let me know if I should create a new post, but this particular film is primarily in English, it is just that there a few scenes where for dramatic purposes the characters speak ina foreign language. Typically I would think this should be enabled via the DVD menu. The movie file is in mp4 format so woiuld the DVD menu be available? If so how would I access it?
Thanks for your help!
Dov
If it is a DVD, it would have to be in ISO or VOB format to enable the “forced” subtitles, which is what you’re talking about. The WD doesn’t understand forced subtitles otherwise.
I’m pretty sure it does not even in these formats cause it ignores the flags, so you have to turn them on manually using the remote.
Hi Tony,
I see…so I will have to covert the film from .mp4 to DVD format…alright, I can do that and give it a try.
Thanks again for your help!!!
Nope, cause then you’ll stll have to turn on the forced subs manually.
