Upload firmware failed

I have an EX4100 at Firmware level 2.12.127. I have used the Check for Updates and it finds nothing. So I manually downloaded 2.41.116.

After selecting the file in the upload, it appears to load the file and start the install but then I get a message: Upload firmware failed.

I’ve rebooted and turned off some apps, but I can never get it to perform the update.

I would eventually like to get to OS 5.

I think you should think long and hard about going to OS/5.

Many, especially those with older hardware, regret it.

Pros

  • Some security enhancements
  • Continued “WD App Support” (note Capabilities of OS5 are notably less than OS3)

Cons:

  • Indexing. . .which will lobotomize your device for extended period
  • From an internet perspective, the new OS/5 is much more noisy, and contacts the internet for reasons not understood much more often than OS/3

I would also stay away from 2.41.116 - - -pretty sure there are “nag” functions built into this version of firmware that will eventually make you upgrade to OS/5

I personally access my old OS/3 unit using VPN into my home network. WD WebAccess is turned off. My newer OS/5 unit has not been turned on this year. . .and will only be powered on again when I decide to downgrade it back to OS3.

Appreciate the feedback!

there are times one needs to do firmware updates in order and not skip forward
not sure if this is a problem in your case

Just something I had to do when I got a old used WD NAS diskless unit

We get a lot of power drops here when the wind blow hard so always connect a UPS to devices when doing a firmware update

( and I put the cat outside the room too )
