I just bought and started a MyCloud DL4100. I have been playing around with the permissions and groups, as I need to assign access to certain files and folders to specific people. I am wondering, though, if the permissions are limited to root folders only. I have not found a way to assign permissions to subfolders. Is that not possible?
What I would like to do is to have a root folder called “Company” then I would like subfolders like “Financial”, “legal”, “sales”, etc. which obviously need different permissions for different people. And then there will be folders where permissions cannot be so clearly defined (for example for certain folders, both the financial people and legal people will need access. How do I do that?
At the time of this post sub-folder permissions are not supported. However, there is an idea suggesting for the feature to be added (For the EX2). You could add your vote and feedback (For the DL4100) in order to increase interest and exposure.

I don’t know how to vote for this, but, frankly, I am amazed that it is not possible. That really makes the whole WD Mycloud device pretty much useless to me. And If I understand it correctly, it is not even planned for the DL4100. It’s really too bad.
One way I might be able to gt around that, at least partially would be to use the DL4100 to mirror the contents on a Server at another site (I would still have to set multiple first level folders to get a modicum of control). I will write another post for that.
