Using a NAS with WDTV. Trouble seeing file types

Howdy,

First off I tried searching for the solution befor posting but after 45min. I’ve decided to just post.

I have a Thecus N4100PRO NAS with (4) 1TB Drives in it.  I have set up a folder on the NAS to be a media server and enabled it.  I then started putting a ton of my H.264 (.mp4) HD movie files in the folder.  Windows media center reades the folder fine.  So when I bought the WD I assumed i could just point it to the folder and start playing movies.  I go to videos find the N4100Pro and drill into the folders.  It finds a Music, Photo, and Videos Folder.  I drill into the Video and it finds my Movie folder (that contains all the .mp4 files)  but it cant see any of the files.  It shows the folder as empty.  So then i think it must me a file type problem.  So then i rip a few movies to (.ts) types, still no luck.  Then i rip some to (.mkv) still no luck.  Finaly i rip one to a (.mov) and it finaly sees that file type, and can play it.  So now i have a folder with over 300+ (.mp4) files that it cant read.  What the heck? why cant it see any of the other movie file types (particularly .mp4).  I thought these things were supposed to read all-in general-media types.

Any thoughts as to what i need to do so it can see my other files.

I have uploaded to the latest firmware as well.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Access  it via a network share instead … problem solved.

Some Media Servers don’t understand the “Content Type” token (when the WD just says Show me VIDEOS ONLY) and won’t display anything at all.
