Using my cloud with adobe lightroom (remote access)

I was hoping My Cloud would be the solution to a file-sharing issue I’ve been having using EHD’s back and forth between my PC Laptop and iMac as well as allow me to outsource some photo editing.

I’d like to be able to put a Lightroom catalog & associated image files onto the cloud drive and work remotely.  It seems I can open the catalog but the images would need to be downloaded to use them.

Has anyone had success using the cloud drive in this way?

Sorry dont have / use lightroom, but if you need to access the files remotely, you can drop the files you need to access into the MyCloud, then login using wd2go.com to access your files outside of your network.

Thank you tnynyn

When accessing from a 2nd computer from a remote location, is it possible to browse from that computer like I can on my iMac (the drive is visible in my finder)?

Yes it will be visible finder once you connect it from wd2go.com  (I suggest you use FireFox for wd2go.com for Mac because of Java issues in Safari)

Okay thanks.  I can actually see the drive in my iMac finder.  It’s the HP/PC laptop I’m having the issue with.

If you’re not working remotely and it’s not listed in the file browser, try to either map it or opening the my cloud directly (open the run prompt by Start > Run or windows key + r  and type in \ipadress\ )

Thank you, I was able to get it to come up!

I’m still worried this isn’t the solution for me.  It took forever to download the files I needed and also so slow to access the images on the drive (to open in Lightroom).  Ugh!

I really appreciate your help, I’ll keep working at it!

Any real fix to this problem? I’m having the same problem with remote access and Lightroom.  It’s absolutely pointless to remotely download the files to my computer just so I can edit them.  Plus it takes hours and hours and hours to do so plus the whole point of me buying the my cloud is to have the pictures off of my computer…. Oh and when I’m remotely accessing my pictures I can’t see a preview of the picture just the file name, needless to say I don’t have the images and associated file names burned into my memory.

No, I wish I could say I worked it out but I think I’ll just use mycloud for backup.  The biggest issue is that no matter what, a LR catalog has to be local rather than remote.  So if you can navigate LR well enough to tell it that your images are on mycloud, you still have to download the catalog and reupload it when you’re done.

With a NAS you have terrabytes of space. More then on your computers. So with the cloud software on the NAS one can synchronize the catalog and images over all the devices. Here we have fibre connections everywhere so that is not the problem.

The only thing I’m wondering about is what happens if one starts working on computer A and not closes Lightroom (so no sync) and starts working on computer B. Whats happens if the computers are shut down and synchronizing starts of the same catalog?
