W10 Pro won't see drives. Is there a dependence on SMBv1?

Answer ID 20736 states:
[The “Network Browse” function has been disabled on Windows 10 v1709 and higher.
SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support has been disabled on Windows 10 Windows 10 Fall Creators Update version 1709 and higher.
For more details, please refer to Microsoft Article SMBv1 is not installed by default in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and Windows Server, version 1709
Important:
The change is not limited to WD Products.]

This statement seems misleading because it suggests that Microsoft introduced a fault, or ceased support of network browse. In fact, Microsoft have quite responsibly discouraged use of the early vulnerable version of the protocol. Newer, less vulnerable versions, are supported and recommended by MS (and others).

The management interface allows setting of up to v3 so I don’t know if the above knowledge base article is very out of date?

Either way I can not get my new W10 Pro PC to see the drives on my NAS. NetBIOS over TCP and Network Discovery are enabled on the PC.

What am I missing please?

Hi Nugget24,

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this.

Thanks Brandon,
I have now been able to resolve this:
1./ assigned a static IP to the NAS
2./ entered: “\IP address” into the search bar
3./ The NAS shares then showed up in file explorer
4./ I could then map the shares as drives

All good now. Although I must say the read /write speed of the NAS is atrocious and I regret buying it because of this.
