WD are you doing anything about white/red led lights- bricked drives

Hello WD,

There seems to be more and more issues related to people getting their WD cloud drives pretty much killed after updating to the latest firmware?

Are you looking into this at all? People are losing their data collection due to this and that i dont know how to stress enough how bad that can be for some.

I’ve already gone through this myself few weeks back. I got the solid white led and the drive never came back after a FW update. Luckily i had a backup of my data on my older Mybook live drive. I had to return the WD drive. While i have a new one at the moment… Im afraid to rely on it for my data as i dont if one day it will suddenly decide to brick itself on me for no reason.

please can you provide an update on this?

Or do WD care how stressed I am with my new my cloud? Set up everything, working like a charm, but I’m afraid what will happen when power goes off, or I have to restart the server, what If I will loose everything again. I’m afraid to delete anything from my PC ( to have backup), because I don’t trust in the device, and this is just no comment. Bought a network access storage, but I can’t use it because I’m afraid I have to go through that procedure again what I had to last weekend. What If I will not be able to contact someone like Patric from WD Support, and I will loose all my data again, and a good amount of money, because of this “glitch”.

FW update is not mandatory. If everything works like how you want it, then leave it.  If you do upgrade, wait a week or two before upgrading and see if there are any issues with the FW.

I have the same issue.

could you solve it ?

I bought a wd my could a week ago. I configured it and it has been working since 1 hour ago.
I do not know what happened to my cloud nas that is dead.
I do not have any access to wd mycloud such as http, ftp, smb, ssh and even pinging mycould ip address after updating the firmware.
I think Debian OS which installed on wd mycould does not boot up or has a problem.
I am pretty sure that the issue is because of some software bug which can solve by re-flashing. but the big problem is that wd-my-cloud does not have flash and we have to unbox it to recover the debian os by something like a backed up image. and the bigger problem is that with this solution we are going to loss the warranty.
I just tried to fix the issue by Performing a System Restore through the Reset button (At the same time as the power is plugged to the WD My Cloud device, pressing the Reset button and holding it for about 40 seconds) but It did not work.

What color light is showing on the front of your My Cloud?

What steps did you take when updating to the new firmware? I used the dashboard when I updated my My Cloud to the latest firmware.

What Operating System are you using on the computer you used to set up your My Cloud?
