Wd Caviar Black failed ! Help please!

Hello,
I’ve bought a brand new WD Caviar Black 3 To
external HDD the 2015, june 26th and it has probably crashed yesterday, just few days after the end of the one year garantee period…
I’m not very satisfied of this fact but the main problem is that it contains a lot of things including my home-studio, many softwares and documents.
My system is Windows 8.1 64 bits with Windows 10 in dual-boot (not used), Motherboard Asus Z87a, 16 Go memory.
The symptoms are: I can see these drive in the BIOS but with a null size.
In diskmanager I can see it also, but not initialised, not allocated.
I don’t see it with testdisk.
The diskmanager reports an error to everything except formatting it, what I don’t want to do. In the tab “properties”, it says it’s working normally, in the volume tab, it says type unknown, 0 Mo for everything, the driver is Microsoft, 21/06/2006, 6.3.9600.18203 and those events (sorry, I’m french): Le périphérique SCSI\Disk&Ven_&Prod_\4&e937c7&0&040000 a été configuré.
Nom du pilote : disk.inf
GUID de classe : {4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
The quick and extended tests displays “Quick Test:: SMART Enable Opration Error”.
This problem occurs when I was trying to copy a file on it.
May somebody help me?
A lot of thanks.
Best regards,
François

Hello,
I’ve just seen that my hdd is still under garantee in the WD site. But the bill indicates “all our products have one year garantee”. Who is right and how to do ?
The franchement retailler is grosbill https://www.grosbill.com/
Thanks for your help.
Best regards,
François

Hello, you might be able to get the information out of the unit by using some sort of Data Recovery software. In regards of the warranty as far as I remember WD Black’s should have a 5 year warranty with WD. Check the link below with your model number and see the warranty that your drive carries.

http://support.wdc.com/Warranty/warrantyPolicy.aspx?lang=en

WD will [Deleted - Be respectful] first chance they get…Get one of those Seagate NAS drives and be done with it.

How does this post help the thread’s owner? How does a future action help address his current, present problem?

Hello, Some news: I’ve tried some softwares to get my data back but it doesn’t see the hdd.
I can see it in Seagate Seatools. Of course, with no size, no SMART, no directories.
It has passed succesfully the short generic test and the long test is running, about 40% completed without any problem.
May I expect something ?
I’ve never used it and I don’t know what it means.
If somebody could tell me more about this.
Thanks for your help.
Best regards,
François

Hello,
To lluna my hdd is still under garantee in the WD site. I’ve checked it. I will ask a NRA for an exchange or reparation, I don’t know how they process but I need to see if I can save something before.
The problem is that if you don’t check the WD site, the vendor doesn’t tell you anything and you just have your bill with one year garantee written on it. And that’s all!
Thanks for all.
Best regards,
François
