WD Live Hub's internal drive is disconnected. Is there a way to rescue my files?

I just purchased the Live Hub with 1TB internal drive and a couple weeks ago and I saved all my photos, movies and music to the internal drive.  A week later I get this.

Looks to be a hardware issue like a disconnected wire.  I contacted support who told me to reset the device.  Same result.  Unfortunately for me all of my memories are on this drive.  The devices where the originals resided have since been wiped and donated.

WD has offered to replace my Live Hub but I need to first recover my files.  A new device will not replace my invaluable, irreplaceable memories.  Is there any way to recover these files?  Everything else seems to work except for of course the need to re-login to Netflix everytime but that’s another issue.

Which firmware were you using?

3.01.19

What exactly happened?

Saved all my files to the 1TB drive a week ago.  Now I can’t access the drive and it boots with the spash screen above.

What you were doing?

Trying to recognize and retrieve files off the 1TB internal drive.

What hardware and media were you using?

WD UI, WD Link app for Windows to map drive.

Does it happen every time?

Yes.

Does it happen with previous firmware?

Only firmware running is the firmware installed when purchased.

Does power cycling the unit solve it?

No.

Does resetting to factory defaults solve it?

No,

Have you tried this on other devices?

Not sure what is meant by this question but I can access other devices on my network.

I can also see the device by IP address using WD Link but unable to map a drive due to it being disconnected.

Ironic that the disk drive which WD has a long history of manufacturing is FAIL and the streaming media player is still fully functional.  Should I not have trusted placing my lifes memories on it?

Anyone have ideas on rescuing my lifes files without popping this unit open which I’m sure would void the warranty.

You can get permission from WD to try opening the unit and connecting the drive to your PC to back it up.

Maybe you’ll be lucky and just discover the connector came loose when you get it open. Get authorization FIRST.

NEVER trust any piece of hardware THAT much. Make backups.

Got my fingers crossed for ya Bud!
