WD Live TV and QNAP TS212 NAS: Delayed content availability over WAN

Hi Everyone-

I purchased a QNAP TS212 recently and I am quite excited about it.  However, I am unsure of the best practice for how to connect to it via my WD Live TV.  Right now I connect to it by choosing “Media Server” on the WD Live TV where the Twonky media server is visible.  However, this yields the following issue:  For some reason, new content takes a while to show up on the WD Live TV even when the directory is refreshed.  I am guessing this is because the QNAP device will index the new content in some manner that delays access to the content.  Are people using an alternative method to connect to their QNAP devices?

Thanks!

no QNAP expert, but even a small one like that I would expect to have

DNLA

SMB

NFS

all of which are ways the WD can access it, provided the QNAP is correctly configured

Thanks for the quick reply.  Is there a way to force the WD Live TV to use one of those protocols or is it out of my control?

Have you tried connectng via network shares?  Your QNAP should show up and you select it.

When I try to connect via Network Shares, the QNAP is not visible.  Do I need to make a change on the QNAP device to make it visible?  Right now I can only access the QNAP from Media Server.

Thanks!

Edit:  When I try to find the QNAP in Network Shares, it is not visible.  I do not have a chance to actually connect (my first statement was not 100% clear).  Thanks!

either the NAS is not sharing out via SMB or it’s misconfigured

like it being in a different workgroup than your WD

BINGO!  Thank you very much!  I matched the specified workgroup to my local network and now it shows up in network/windows shares on the WD Live TV.  Much better!
