MBL 1tb software is up to date, version - MyBookLive 02.11.09-053 : Core F/W
I downloaded the new mac update yesterday ( Software OS X 10.8.2 (12C54) and I tried to access my mbl today. As soon as I clicked on it it tried to connect then came back with the error, “There was a problem connecting to the server. The server may not exist or it is unavailable at the time. Check the server name or iP address, check your network connection, and then try again.”
So I rebooted the MBL
Restarted the Mac
Still no progress.
I went to finder command k and tried to connect to the mbl that way as it still showed up in the list of previous servers, this did not work.
I pinged the MBL from the Mac and it is responding.
I checked on my iphone to see if I could still access the MBL there and I can.
I got the installation disc from the MBL and put it in the Mac and tried to go through the setup again, for some reason it cannot discover the MBL.
Network set up is very simple, router with MBL connected, one windows pc connected via ethernet and 2 macs connected wirelessly.
Windows pc can see the MBL, the two macs cannot (both have been updated).
Does anyone have any idea if there is a compatibility issue?
I checked with one of our test groups. They have not been able to duplicate the issues you are seeing. You might want to contact support to get more detail and help get your problem resolved.
Can you see the drive with Bonjour? (this is available through Safari → show bookmarks → Bonjour).
What type of router do you have? We have seen instances of routers not having enough routing tables to handle multiple devices on the network. Some other things to look at would be to set the drive to a static IP, and changing the DNS servers to Google servers (8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4).
Still - Since Bonjour can’t see it, something on your network is blocking that service. It looks as if AFP is also blocked. Are you running a firewall or Anti-virus software? What is your router make and model?
The router is a 2wire (Pace) 3801HGV. Which has a firewall built in. The Mac firewall was on but I turned it off yesterday to see if that would fix the issue.
Ok so it looks like that was just a temporary fix, overnight the smb server disappeared and now trying to reset it up I get the same errors all over again.

It might be worth pointing out that since Safari 6 came out, you have to activate Bonjour in Preferences > Bookmarks, or you just won’t see it.
I can see bonjour just that there is nothing in it. I played around with it last night and I discovered that if I set it up as afp with the IP address instead of the name, it works. Or at least it worked last night will see if it is still there when I get home again.
