Hi all, i have a 4Tb WD My Book external drive (USB not NAS) that i’ve removed the drive and installed it internally into my pc. It is has been working fine internally for a while now and i’m happy with it. I recently got hold of a 2Tb HDD, and while i don’t have space to fit it internally i do still have the My Book external enclosure. I tried to hook the 2tb up as an external drive but it fails to initialize in Windows 10 Disk Management, apparently due to an I/O error, and as such i’m unable to format it. I know the drive is good as i’ve temporarily hooked it up internally in place of the 4tb and i have hooked the 4tb back up to the external enclosure and that works fine. This leads me to believe that the controller from the external box only works with particular drives or the original drive it ships with. Is anyone able to confirm this or know of a way i can use the controller with another drive.
