WD TV Live Hub - Problems connecting to the Internet using services and other…
I’ve used a cable to connect my WDTV Live Hub directly to my modem/router, I should state, that when I first logged on and I started to use the ‘Get Content Info’, I only got the odd error that the network wasn’t available, most of the time it worked on second try,I assumed it couldn’t find the title or something.
Lately, its taking me a couple of attempts to get that service working AND if I go to Youtube or try to use any other service, it will either spin for a long time and then bomb out, get stuck (need power reset) or timeout and say there is no network connection,
I’ve tried to logon to Youtube a few times, and have only gotten as far as the prompt to add a code, when I add it, it will say its processing, then it will get stuck, timeout or spin forever.
I have about another 4 devices logged into this modem/router through wireless, and these have no problem with download speed or connection… And I have hard wired the WDTV hub through the LAN ports on the modem/router, and its worse, when in fact it should be better and faster.
Can anybody give me some advice/help on how to solve this issue please.
I should mention… up to date with v3.12.13 and have tried a reset, not a hard reset as i have far too much on the internal disk.
Well a power down (disconnection from mains) and then let it rest for a couple of mins and then power up.
A proper hard reset, configuaration and all, is the button at the back, the pin hole reset, which i understand loses all your data, and I have a lot of music and films on there, way too much to copy off onto a disk,
If you push that little button in on the BOTTOM of the Hub it will fully reset you hub’s settings and it WILL NOT erase any of your pictures, movies, music, themes (but it will default back to the original theme Mochie). So if you think it will solve your problem press it in for less than 10 seconds and fear not of loosing your music.
I personally prefer to fully reset my Hub each time I update the Firmware…but we won’t get any new firmware as the Hub is no longer the favorite child of WD, the WDTV Live Streaming Media Player is!
i appreciate you are ‘trusted’ on this forum, but are you 100% sure that this will not wipe out my hundreds of films and thousands of tunes? and it will only restore ALL the configuations to default?

He is correct – it will not do ANYTHING to the data on your HD.
But on a totally separate subject, if it’s that important to you, you ought to be backing the data up…
i appreciate you confirming this for me Tony… i’ll have to weigh up the risks, with Xmas coming up, if i lose the data, my kids will kill me, they have at least 100 films on there alone.
The reason i cannot backup the data, is because i dont have anywhere or anything big enough to back it up on, and up to now its been very good, it’s only since I connected it to the internet that i have started having problems.
Maybe a little info on your router might help. Have you tried different pieces of cat5? Might need to reset the router? Maybe some other device is causing the hub to have problems. Has anything new been added to the network at about the time this all started?
