WD TV Live Plus and HP Media Smart Server

Hello, I loaded on folder containing a large number of movies onto my new HP Media Smart Server. The WD Plus device was able to see and play all folders.

Now I have loaded many more movies - some within new folders and some not.

Though I have “reset” the WD unit many times it will NOT see the newly placed movies and folders from the main “play video” screen.

Strangely if I go into the “File Management” section of my WD I can see all the folders and added movies???

What gives here? What am I doing wrong? Anyone had this problem before? Thanks for the help.

Are you accessing the files via MEDIA SERVERS or NETWORK SHARES?

You have found the answer.

When I go to find my HP Media Smart Server though “Network Shares” yes, magically all my folders now are there.

When I go directly to my Media Server through “Media Servers” ONLY one folder is shown. The others are “missing.”

Can you explain the techincial resason why this happens? Thanks,

Nope… That’s one of many reason I refuse to use Media Servers.  It’s unnecessary “Middle-ware.”

You need to rebuild the media index in your media serving app.  I use a synology box for feeding mine, and it runs a daemon in the background that monitors for changes in the video, photo and music folders.

HP ought to do the same.  Check your docs to see how to enable automatic monitoring.  HP also ought to enable it by default, like synology does, but maybe not?
