Audio on MKV Files not sounding

I have a little problem, in my MKV files their is no sound.  I tried everything. At first I thought it was the Movie, but the I started trying other MKV movies and tv series and also old files that I have previously played with succes now the audio does not sound… I also try by upgrading the firmware and nothing… It seems to play all other type of files but the MKV just video, no sound…

What could this be?

I have the WD TV LIVE PLAIN…

How are you connecting your WD?
What audio mode do you have it set to? DIGITAL OR STEREO?
Also, post the full text output of MediaInfo for such a file.

I’ve had the same problem with my WDTV Live - it could be that the audio in your MKV file is encoded as AAC and you need to convert it. Since your file is already MKV, it’s a simple one-step process… I use the Popcorn Audio Converter (you’ll also have to download the MKVtools package from Matroska).

Incidentally, if you have the same problem with MP4 files, you just use MKVMerge to convert it to MKV, then Popcorn Audio Converter to change the audio to AC3.

What firmware is on your WDTV?

Hi,

Video via HDMI and audio via AV OUTPUT

DIGITAL

I dont know where to look this in the file

1.05.04_V

Mediainfo (free)

Post the MKV details using the program above.

eNGLISH, 640 Kbps, 48.0 Khz, 16 Bits, 6 Channels, AC-3 (Header Striping)

Second Audio Stream: English, 1 510 Kbps, 48.0Khz, 24 Bits, 6 Channels, DTS (Header Stripping)

If you are using the white/red audio cables, then you need to set the AUDIO mode of the WD to STEREO. Have you done that?

hi

exactly , change audio options [of wd hd tv live  - on screen] to “stereo”

and revert here if that works

To enjoy multi-channel surround sound you’ll need to have an Audio receiver connected with WD TV. Otherwise you have to get the WD downmix  6 channels to 2 channels (stereo), as Tonly advised.

By the way, HDMI cable delivers not only video, but also digital audio.
