I currently have 2 MyCloud personal cloud storage units. One is at home and one at the office. The office unit is a v04.05.00.
We use them as a central place to store and share our files. Office Docs, Outlook .pst, quickbooks, etc.
I would like to also automatically backup each unit to the other so that I have offsite backups for each.
Can I use my units? If not, what products do you recommend for each location?
I have the same idea but haven’t bought the second device.
For now I have only one My cloud device ( in the office) and just as you I want to automatically backup to a similar device at home at night.
What device to buy for this purpose?
If one uses the forum search feature, magnifying glass icon upper right, they’ll find a number of past discussions on trying to backup or sync one single bay My Cloud to a remote single bay My Cloud.
Officially it is not possible. Unofficially it MIGHT be possible but would involve using SSH to issue commands (like Rsync) and possibly some reconfiguration of the network router to allow for inbound traffic to the My Cloud.
See the following WD Knowledgebase article that details which My Cloud devices support backing up to another My Cloud device.
One can attach a USB external hard drive to their My Cloud to perform backups (or Safepoints) to that external USB drive. See the My Cloud User Manual (https://support.wdc.com/product.aspx?ID=904) for more information on how to backup a My Cloud.
