My off-site MyCloud NAS was working well for the last few weeks, but a couple of days ago I started seeing “Can’t connect to this device” when trying to connect to it via the My Cloud desktop software. I tried using the My Cloud website, but I received an error that says “Can’t connect to WDMyCloud.”
You will need to have local access (or VPN access to local network, or remote SSH access to the My Cloud) to the “offsite” My Cloud in order to access the Dashboard to see what the remote access status is and to possibly fix certain remote access issues. Generally the My Cloud Dashboard cannot be accessed through a remote connection using a web browser or the WD programs and mobile apps.
Sometimes simply turning Remote Access off then waiting a few minutes and turning it back on is enough to fix certain issues.
The router to which your remote device is connected may have had its global IP address changed by your ISP, for instance, if the router rebooted itself. The WD remote access system does not appear to be able to cope with that.
Using the Dashboard to toggle cloud access restores the connection, but you need local access to do that.
