Found problem, folder.jpg files where to big in kb
Hello ritaben, Can you detail folder.jpg’s specifications you found ? size in kb ? width * height ? It would be helpful, Thanks
Standard is 185x273, it seems… at least that’s what the automatically generated ones are. I have a working folder.jpg in a folder with 27kb in size. For some reason, the folder.jpg doesn’t work for me in folders that contain movies, and have omovie thumbnails in them… it picks one of the first movie thumbnails instead of folder.jpg.
Edit: I found out I can trick it into working by naming the folder thumbnail “1.metathumb”. That way it’s usually the first file in the folder and will be used, after powercycling the WDTV.
200x300 works too. I have some anywhere from 25kb to 65kb
Arakon, thats a good trick, i’ll have to try it i am still on 1.04.12 because thats the last firmware that uses the folder.jpg in folders with movies
Brilliant thinking on the 1.metathumb Can’t wait to try it out.

I just chose a file that was working and used it’s dimenensions, etc
In my case the folder.jpg dimensions were 110px wide by 165px high and 6.39kb’s
Hi all newbie here
Do you name the jpeg 1.metathumb or should it be 1.metathumb.jpg?
I tried 1.metathumb and it didn’t work for me after doing a power cycle and scan.
It still uses the first Movie in the folder for the folder view
Thanks

I’m using Tinwarbles dvd covers with my metathumbs and still sometimes a metathumb will not show because it is to big(kb’s). If I create a std metathumb in ends up to big in kb’s, I now save the file as a jpg file (smaller kb’s format) then simply rename it in explorer to xxx.metathumb, file remains same size and voila it shows up like it’s supposed to.
My metathumb is 32KB, is that too big?
Thanks
You have to turn off the WDTV (hold power button until it turns off) for it to re-scan the folder images.
32kb is fine, I got up to 70-something kb without issues.
i cannot seem to get the 1.metathumb trick to work, i have changed my folder.jpg to 1.metathumb , reset to factory cleared all network shares recreated them, ersaed .wdtv folder. any suggestions? i am using 1.07 firmware just upgraded from 1.04.12
It is ignoring my metathumbs. I deleted all metathumbs in the folder except the 1.metathumb and it will not use it. Just shows default thumbnail. I can change it back to a folder.jpg and it seems ok , is there a special way to convert? My sizes are anywhere from 37-66kb.
I have the same problem
The only way I can get it to work is my Action Folder has the folder.jpg inside it but all the film content is inside an additional folder called Action inside the main Action folder.
Hope that sounds clear.
It means you have to sellect the folder twice to see its contents.

have you tried deleting the hidden ‘wd_tv’ folder and let it build itself again?
yes i have deleted the .wdtv folder, it builds the database again but still ignores “1.metathumb”
I’ve found that working with folder.jpg, that if the image is around 200x300 and less than 80kb, you should be OK.
thanks for the replies. mine are all about 200x300 and less than 80kb.
Is your folder.jpg in a folder i.e MOVIES, or have you just put all your videos on the hard drive along with folder.jpg?
Cheers
i have them by themselves in some folders and some folders i have them with other metathumbs either way when i name them “1.metathumb” they dont show up.
