Hi all,
I currently have a 4tb normal mycloud which is coming up to being 3/4 full. I would like to know If it is possible to take the drive out of this and put it into say one of the new mycloud ex2100 models?
Also I currently do not have a backup of my data at the moment so I am constantly worried about it. Would it be possible say for example I get the 8tb (2x4) ex2100 to have one drive mirror the other to begin with but then at a later date when I am running out of space to then back it up to a remote location and use all 8tb of space. I hope this makes sense?
Many thanks
Hi, WD My Clouds usually have WD Red inside of them which are compatible with the EX2100 models. I only see 2 problems with this.
1 - You will void the warranty on the My Cloud by opening the enclosure.
2 - In order to use the WD Red inside of the ex2100 the EX will need to reformat the drive and the data will be gone.
Onto the second question you can use the Safepoint feature to backup to the EX2100 automatically, also, theres a few guides in the forum which could show you how to use an rsync daemon to backup using the command line instead of WD’s safepoint.
