My Cloud does not detect network cable + blinking white light

Hi There,

Please advise me in the following issue (read similar threads already, but none of the were perfectly describing mine):

  • after a short (1-2 sec) electricity outage my My Cloud is not accessible anymore,
  • it has a constant white light blinking on the front (I left it for at least 10 hours, in case its only a content check process)
  • next I power down and up the device, after booting up constant white led appeared, but after a minute or so the blinking light came again (same when normally restarting)
  • I rebooted all two routers (other devices has internet, so it is not a connectivity issue)
  • interestingly the router’s lan light (to which the My Cloud with ethernet cable is connected) is off
  • now I tested all possible variations with different ethernet cables and network capable devices to isolate if its a cable or a lan port issue on the router
  • finally it turned out all routers and cables are working fine
  • additionally both network LEDs are off on the back of the My Cloud

Can it be a My Cloud network slot damage or is the content test process this long?

The issue is a little urging, so all help is highly appreciated!

Thank you,

michael.janko

Can a networking port be damaged due to a power spike or power outage? Yes, rare but it can happen.

One suggestion. Unplug the power to both the My Cloud and the two routers you indicated you are using. Next, disconnect any other devices connected to the main broadband router. Next, connect the My Cloud to the main broadband router and power on just the main broadband router and wait at least five minutes. Then power on the My Cloud and wait a few minutes then check the LAN indicator lights on the back of the My Cloud to see if they show any activity (one or both LED’s should light up).

When all else fails try doing a 4 second reset or a 40 second system restore. May not help but might eliminate one troubleshooting step.

Thank you Bennor,

one little update:

  • I unplugged both the power cable and the lan cable,
  • left the device there for around 15 minutes
  • reconnected the power cable until the flashing light appeared (after constant white light)
  • at the back a flashing green nw indicator light appeared (seemingly there is a live nw connection – thank god)
  • now I can access the dashboard
  • but the flashing white light remained
  • as I try to check the firmware status on dashboard it gives an error message: internal server error (370014)
  • also interresting that I can reach my files only via WD My Cloud desktop app (slower than usual)
  • My Cloud appears in finder as well, but if I try to connect as a registered user it says “error while conncting to the server…”

Now I dont understand anything

Thank you for your further help!

Update:

Restarted the My Cloud through the web surface and now everithyng works fine (blue light)

Thanks again!

I have been having the same issue. We just received a new router from att and our service was updated. I have tried restarting the router and the storage device with no success. I keep getting a white flashing light. I have connected the device right to my computer and I can access the info on it that way but we need it for other users so it needs to be connected to our network. The indicator lights on the router and the device do not light up. I hope someone can help.

Thanks

There is a known problem with AT&T Uverse routers and the My Cloud. There are multiple threads on the Uverse issue. The workaround solution is to use a switch or hub in between the My Cloud and the AT&T router.

Bennor,

Thank you! I needed to connect the My Cloud device to a switch. Started up right away.

No reply from WD on this issue? I bought the MyDrive on July 21, 2018 and has exactly the same problem.

If this problem has been going on for years it would be suitable if WD came up with an answer.

“MyDrive”? Do you mean My Cloud?

Does a switch solve the issue if a My Cloud?
