Replacing hard disk in RAID 1

I have a My Cloud EX2 (2*6Tb).
I want to replace ‘Disc1’ that is broken.
The disks are working in RAID 1.

I have 2 questions:

  • I first want to copy the content of Disk 2 via USB to 2 hard disks but I can 't see the WD-disk in Explorer.
(Since the problems with Disk 1, the EX2 won’t work over the network)

  • After copying, I want to replace the defective Disk 1 on the EX2. I think I must install (the good working) disk 2 on place 1 and the new disk on place 2 (Correct me if I’m wrong, but I fear to loose all data if I would place the new disk in place of the defective one.)

Hi Bobtje,

As the drives in RAID 1, a single drive may not be read by the computer. I would suggest you to place a new and same storage of hard drive in My Cloud EX2 device and rebuild RAID to get save your data in drives.

You can have a look on this KBA for more details:

Hello Brandon

Thanks for your reaction and sorry form my English (that’s not so good).

I did replace the degraded disc by a new one.

I repeat the steps:

  • I have a WD My Cloud EX2 2 * 6 Tb

  • Disk 1 was degraded

  • I bought exactly the same disc (WD60 EFRX) and replaced the defected one.

  • Both blue lights started blinking

  • After 1 day 1% was rebuild, after two days 2%

  • Since yesterday I can’t ‘reach’ the device via the dashboard in my browser (by typing the IP-adress)

  • Both drives are working now for two or three days and nights, both blue LEDs still flashing…

Is it allowed to stop that process, just by pulling out the electricity cable?

Can I start again with the rebuilding process?

Thanks in advance for your help
