I no longer need a NAS and want to use the drive in my PC. Was wondering if it is possible?
Can you remove the My Cloud hard drive from it’s enclosure and attach it to a computer using either a external USB hard drive enclosure/docking station or a spare SATA connector on the computer itself? Yes. Doing so voids the My Cloud warranty. The My Cloud hard drive is formatted for Linux (ext4), a format that Windows cannot read without additional third party drivers. One would either need to install those drivers in Windows or erase/reformat the hard drive within Windows. Doing so will erase all contents on the hard drive.
If you reformat the My Cloud hard drive it will no longer work in the My Cloud enclosure unless you follow one of the various “unbricking” processes that can be found using the forum search feature, magnifying glass icon upper right.
