Video playback

I copied a selection of music videos and films onto my WD Live HDD, when i come to watch them on my TV, a majority will play, but some come up with a message “unsupported file format”, although the sound still plays, no image is seen.  The file formats are a mixture of mp4, avi and xvid, the one with the issue seems to be avi, although some will play and recently i started to watch one, stopped and tried to watch the next night and then got the error message.

Anyone out there got any ideas or offer a solution.

Have you confirmed your files are compatible with your TV’s player?

Yes, the problem appears to be with AVI files, some play and others dont.

Well, in general, the MBL doesn’t care what the file contents are.   If it’s tagged as AVI, it’ll stream the same way every time.

But AVI, keep in mind, is NOT a format.   It’s a CONTAINER.   It can contain lots of different types of audio and video formats.   Your TV must support not only the AVI container, but both the audio AND video formats.
