Windows 10 does not add wdtv/wdtvlive to the network (contrary to windows 7)

Windows 10 recognizes wd tv as a media device. I can stream from my pc via media player libraries, that works fine. I read a lot about problems with shared folders on pc’s, but I only want windows 10 to detect the hard drives / sticks attached to wd tv. It worked well under windows 7. WD TV was visible in the same way as other computers in the network (in windows explorer).
After trying almost everything, I got fed up and bought a second hand computer with hdmi output plus a wireless keyboard and mouse. Everything is now connected directly to my TV. Problem solved.
However, I have given my wd tv to a friend of mine as a present and still wish to solve the problem in Windows 10

What is the problem you are left with in Windows 10, post-WDTV, exactly, please?

Windows 10 does not detect sticks or hard disks which are attached directly to the wd tv live box. In Windows 7 it worked just fine. I could see wd tv live plus the drives in the left column of Windows Explorer when I clicked on “network”. wdtv appeared together with the other computers in my network (the same icons), in the left column. Now wdtv is only recognized as a multimedia device in the right column of windows explorer.

To put it simple: In Windows 10 I do not have access to hard drives attached directly to the wdtv box. The problem occured on 3 computers OS Windows 10. It never occurred running windows 7.

Searching the network gave no results. wdtv was not found. Trying to solve the problem resulted in a message “one or more network protocols are missing on this computer”
Will there be a wdtv firmware upgrade soon?
Thanks in advance

Right, that’s clear. It was just your saying you were no longer using WDTV (you mentioned giving it away) and that made me uncertain what the problem now is. I must say at once I cannot help because everything you say in the first paragraph (of your reply) is exactly the same for me (Windows 10.1), I know because of a different piece of “multimedia,” not from WDTV on which I don’t use its usb slot but simply stream via network share from pc. So all I can add is I hope someone can assist. They’re good on here.
I’m not familiar with the “network protocols are missing on your computer” message, but it is dealt with here:

No firmware upgrade imminent I believe, from all the chat in this community at any rate.

Ok. Thanks for your info.
